The HPI model 4083 Canary III is an electronic personnel dosimeter. It is the ideal instrument for monitoring a wide range of exposures.

The Canary III integrates dose on a digital display from 1 mR to 999,999 mR. It incorporates an adjustable beeper as well as an adjustable integrate alarm. The memory function is also user selected. The display is automatically reset when the on-off switch is moved from off to on.

The battery life of the Canary III is 2000 hours or almost a year of normal work-time use. The battery test button is conveniently placed on top of the instrument along with the power switch and beeper.

The Canary is housed in a small anodized aluminum case that easily fits into a pocket or clips to a belt or lanyard.

The Canary III is available in two models, the 4083 with a recessed power switch and the 4083P with a finger-operated power switch.

Controls and indicators
Top panel: Power on-off and Battery test.
Front panel: LCD Display, 6 digit, .2" high digits.
Reset: Turning the instrument from off to on resets the display and the Integrate alarm.

Adjustments
Chirper: May be set at .1, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and 2096 mR and off. Integrate alarm may be set at the same values as the chirper except both cannot be set to the same number; the .1 mR setting is approximate.
Discriminator/Calibrate: Single turn control adjustment
Coarse Calibrate: solder jumper preset for proper energy response.
Display Memory Jumper: if on, turns the display on all the time even when the instrument is turned off. Display will reset when instrument is turned on,but reading will stay when the instrument is turned off. Battery test will check if instrument is on.

Exposure Rate Response: +- 15% from 1 mR to 100 R/h.
Background: Less than 1 mR/10 hours
Accuracy: +-20 % from 1mR/h to 1 R/h
Energy Dependence: +-30% from 80 keV to 1.25 MeV
Temp. Dependence: +-10 % from 15 to 35 deg C, +-20 % from 0 to 50 deg C
Humidity Range: 20-90 %, non condensing.
Shock Factor: Mild shocks will have no effect, large shocks may increment display by an mR.
Temperature Range: 0 to 50 deg C, Storage -20 to 70 deg C
