The
model DL-1 is a microprocessor based data logger. It is designed
to count pulses and store the count periodically in memory for later
retrieval. Its main application is measuring pulses from radiation
detectors used in environmental monitoring systems.
The instrument is a single width NIM (Nuclear Instrumentation Module).
It is controlled and operated by an external computer or terminal.
The data and setup information is stored in battery backed up memory.
Several DL-1s can be connected together on a bussed RS-232
daisy chain. Each instrument on the bus has its own unique serial
number. A remote telephone modem can easily control many DL-1s
at a remote location. Several passwords are built into the instrument
to prevent unauthorized entry into the system.
There are four different inputs on the back panel as well as an
event input. The DL-1 scales each input on a 28 bit counter. The
time between samples can be set over a wide range. There is enough
memory to scale a 1.6 MHz signal on 4 channels with a minute interval
for 1 week and not miss a count.
The DL-1 is the ideal instrument for gathering data from nuclear
detectors or any other pulsed device.
Specifications

LED, power LED.
Rear Panel
Controls: 2 loop through bussed modular RS-232 connectors, 4 counter
BNC inputs, 1 BNC event input, RS-232 buss terminator switches,
setup switch, NIM power connection.
Internal
Controls: RTS and CTS defeat for RS-232 connections, BNC #4 and
Event input allocation, clock adjust.
Electrical
Power
Requirements: 150 mA at 12 VDC from NIM power supply. Will work
from 6 VDC to 16 VDC.
Backup power:
2 ea AA Alkaline batteries.
Counter Input:
TTL/CMOS protected. Input Frequency: 8 MHz max. DC min.
Baud Rate:
Front panel fixed at 9600 baud. Rear panel may be set to: 300,600,1200,2400,4800,
and 9600 baud.
Operational
Input
count size: 32 bits sampled every second.
Memory allocation:
1 channel of data takes 1 record. Memory available: 40,320 records
(samples) excluding overhead.
Memory organization:
Circular with pointers. When memory fills up instrument will erase
last records and replace with new data.
Channel size:
0 to 4 channels.
Prescale:
May be set to: 1,2,4,8,16,32. All channels the same.
Event input:
When activated places a time mark in the data.
Interface/Program
Serial
Communication: Front panel: RS-232, rear panel: Bussed RS- 232 w/
2K bus pull down resistors.
Passwords:
3 ea for 3 levels of security.
Access: Both
front panel local I/O and rear panel remote I/O bus can change all
system parameters except passwords which can be set only by the
front panel. Retrieval of stored data is transferred only through
the rear panel remote I/O bus.
Program:
All setup and functions are menu driven.
Protocol:
Serial link for rear panel remote I/O bus data dump is performed
using XModem with CRC or checksum protocol.
Data Dump
Format: Data from the DL-1 is transferred in encoded hex format.
A program designed to run on a PC is included to decode the data.
The decoded data from this program is put into a file. It is easy
to import into spread sheets, word processors or other programs.
Supplied Software
DL1CV:
The program to decode the raw data from the DL-1. It is designed
for use on a PC. Source code written in C is also supplied for use
on other computers.
Accessories
Instruction
Manual: This manual contains complete information on the operation,
maintenance and specifications of the DL-1 and associated programs.
